I Tried Blush Contouring, The ’70s Trend Taking Over TikTok

Scroll To See More Images

You might think the resurgence of blush feels like it comes from the 1980s and in some ways, it definitely does. We went from ultra-bronzed in the early aughts to a more blush-focused look in 2021 with rosy faces that feel like they came out of an ’80s movie. But specifically, the blush contour trend is actually from the ’70s. Also known as blush draping, the technique became popular thanks to Cher’s makeup artist Way Bandy.

These bright cheeks, called “color glow” by Bandy, took off in the late 1970s and really blew up in the ’80s. Just think of that iconic Debby Harry photo where she’s wearing blush all the way up to her temples. But then in the 2000s, the Instagram Face was born with hollowed-out cheeks, snatched noses and contoured chins with cream contour products or bronzer. Did we even use blush? Maybe a dot of it.

Now, the blush contour trend is back and blowing up on TikTok. It sounds kind of crazy but it’s actually a really simple technique that yields gorgeous results. I decided to try it using one of my favorite products, the Lawless Beauty Make Me Blush Talc-Free Velvet Blush ($29 at QVC). With an angled brush, I applied the formula right where I normally would contour, to carve out my cheeks heading all the way up to my forehead. I added a little to my nose too for that sun-kissed look.

I started with a light hand and added more where needed so the finished product was more subtle than ’80s rockstar. It’s best to choose a blush formula that is buildable and not overly pigmented so you have more room to play with the intensity. Something about blush contouring feels fresh and modern—the opposite of cheugy. Will I be retiring bronzer for good? Of course not but I’m really enjoying this new way of adding brightness to my face.

If you want to try blush contouring for yourself, there are some stellar formula choices to choose from. I got you started with a few favorites, below.

John Travolta Shares Bittersweet News About Late Wife Kelly Preston’s Final Screen Role

By Brent Furdyk.

John Travolta shared some news about late wife Kelly Preston with his 3.6 million Instagram followers.

On Thursday evening, Travolta posted the trailer for “Off the Rails”, the final film that Preston made before losing her battle with breast cancer last year.

As Travolta wrote in the caption, Preston was “very proud of it and of all of the wonderful talent that she got to work with in it.”

“A dying wish from their best friend, Anna (Andrea Corr), compels Cassie (Kelly Preston), Kate (Jenny Seagrove) and Liz (Sally Phillips) to put old feuds aside and take her 17-year-old daughter on an inter-railing journey across Europe that they did not quite finish during their studies,” the film’s synopsis explains.

“Now in their 50s, they are older but not necessarily wiser. With some bad luck, train strikes, and romantic entanglements thrown in their way, the trip promises as many laughs and tears and self-discovery as the first time around. The question is: will they reach their destination in time to honour their friend’s memory?”

Thomas Markle threatens to take daughter Meghan to court

The Duchess of Sussex’s father has threatened to take her to court to see his grandchildren.

Duchess of Sussex

Thomas Markle hasn’t seen his daughter Meghan since before her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018 and he’s ready to take drastic action “in the very near future” in order to meet their kids Archie, two, and Lili, seven weeks.

He told Fox News: “We shouldn’t be punishing [Lili] for Meghan and Harry’s bad behaviour.

“Archie and Lili are small children. They’re not politics. They’re not pawns. They’re not part of the game. And they’re also royal and entitled to the same rights as any other royal…

“I will be petitioning the California courts for the rights to see my grandchildren in the very near future.”

The retired lighting director also mocked Harry’s recent announcement that he’ll release his memoir next year, insisting that “after three sessions with the psychiatrists and Oprah Winfrey”, the prince wouldn’t “have too much more to tell.”

Thomas previously revealed he only discovered he had become a grandfather again when he heard the news “on the radio”.

He said: “I haven’t spoken to her [Meghan] since two days before they got married … no phone calls, I just heard it on the radio…

“I’ll be very disappointed that I don’t get to hold my granddaughter.”

Thomas is still bemused as to why Meghan, 39, decided to cut off all contact with him.

Although the proud father accepts he made an error of judgment when he staged paparazzi photos of himself getting a suit and shopping before the nuptials in May 2018, he insists he has done nothing so bad that Meghan should choose to be completely estranged from him.

He said: “I’ve made mistakes. I apologised a hundred times for it … If I had done something terribly wrong, that would be fine, but I haven’t.”

Polk County Sheriff arrests 29 drug dealers, rocks their gold chains: ‘We got your gold’

The Polk County Sheriff is going viral after he donned gold chains owned by drug dealers who are now in the county jail.

Sheriff Grady Judd held a press conference this week to announce the arrests of 32 people connected to a drug trafficking operation.

Authorities seized narcotics with a street value of $283,000, $88,000 in cash, and $89,000 worth of jewelry in the sting operation that spanned 16 months.

Judd said law enforcement arrested 29 drug traffickers and issued arrest warrants for three others who are still at large.

“You can go ahead and turn yourself in or you can go to jail tired from running, but you’re gonna go to jail,” Sheriff Judd said, referring to the three fugitives.

Judd picked up several gold chains and wore them around is neck while taunting the jailed drug dealers.

“That’s right, they thought they were cool. How cool are you today?” He said, while holding mugshots of two of the dealers.

“Can y’all make up a rap song about this? Well, I’ll help you out. You see, we got your gold. We put your tail in the county jail. Think about that, brothas.”
