The real reasons the spoon-licking Duke of Hastings, played by Regé-Jean Page, left Bridgerton (don’t worry, he’s back on our screens soon)

It’s been a tough old week for Bridgerton fans, who are still mourning the news that Regé-Jean Page’s Duke of Hastings won’t be appearing in the much-anticipated second series. The news came to light on Good Friday when both him and Netflix let the news slip rather elegantly.

Bridgerton‘s Twitter account revealed the news via a notice from Lady Whistledown with the caption, “’Your Grace, it has been a pleasure.”

Regé-Jean Page replied, “Pleasure and a privilege! An honour to be a member of the family – on and off screen, cast, crew and incredible fans – the love is real and will just keep growing.”

So, why isn’t the show’s smouldering, spoon-licking, universally-adored lead really returning? Is it really down to the “B” word?

Netflix failed to secure him longer than one season

According to some reports, the actor was keen to shun away from his breakthrough role which saw him nicknamed, “Duke of Bonkerton” revealing in an interview last year that he found the attention as a sudden sex symbol “slightly overwhelming.”

A source told the Daily Mail, Regé-Jean Page’s departure from the show was essentially down to Netflix not securing him for longer than one season.

“Everyone at Netflix is VERY jumpy about what has happened. They’re being hugely defensive as they messed up not optioning him for a second series.

“They didn’t think it was going to be a hit. He’s now got the legal get-out to capitalise on his fame with movie deals while everyone else is signed up for five seasons.”

In Page’s recent interview with Variety he said his role in Bridgerton had been sold to him as a one season one-off. He said they told him: “It’s a one-season arc. It’s going to have a beginning, middle, end.” [I thought] That’s interesting, because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Bridgerton star was reportedly offered up to £36,365 per episode if he came back for between three and five episodes of season two, with others reporting he could name his price if he wanted to.

Bridgerton season 2: Regé-Jean Page will NOT return to the Netflix show and we’re devastated

He’s tipped for bigger things

Regé-Jean Page’s departure from Bridgerton means he’s essentially a free agent, able to explore the mammoth amount of other roles that have headed his way since his Netflix debut.

We know he’s been confirmed to star in the big budget film Dungeons & Dragons, a film adaptation of Hasbro’s venerable board game, joining a cast that includes Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez and Justice Smith, as well as Netflix’s The Gray Man with Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling. He’s also starring in Amazon Prime’s Sylvie’s Love, in which he plays a jazz musician.

Then, of course, there’s the “B” word – yep, there’s no ignoring the rumours that Regé-Jean Page is in line to play the next James Bond – although if he found the Bridgerton attention hard, we imagine things will be somewhat tripled if he plays the ultimate ladies’ man and secret agent.

Some bookies have made the actor the next favourite to take over from Daniel Craig as 007, ahead of previous front-runners Tom Hardy and James Norton.

Of the news, Page said to the Mirror “Ah, the ‘B’ word. I think that if you are British and you do anything of note, that other people take notice of, then people will start talking about that.”

He added, “I think that’s fairly normal and I’m flattered to be in the category of Brits that people have noticed.” But he added: “I think the concept of having plans in this moment in history is mildly hilarious. So I’ve given up on making them.”

Back in January, he spoke about the James Bond role to TV host Jimmy Fallon, saying “I think the internet thinks a lot of things, and that’s one of the more pleasant ones, so I’m pleased as far as that goes.

“But I think there might be an element of cultural translation to be done here. If you’re a Brit and you do something of any kind of renown, that people regard well, then people start saying the ‘B’ word. It’s like a merit badge. You get the ‘B’ word merit badge. But I don’t think it’s much more than that. I’m glad to have the badge. I’m glad to be in such wonderful company of people who have the badge. But it’s a badge.”

However, now news is out that he’s definitely not going to be returning to our screens in period costume as the Duke of Hastings, the Bond rumours seem a whole lot more plausible.

Now more than ever, fans are looking to the Bond franchise to cast a more representative 007, one whose role will be shape-shifted to keep up with the #MeToo and Black Lives Matter movements. Not only is Page the perfect face for this, he’s already got a burgeoning younger fan base, one directors will be keen to attract for the next big installment.

Medical Minute: Brain tumors, risk factors, signs & symptoms

Prince Williams/FilmMagic

Emmy-winning news anchor Jovita Moore underwent surgery to remove two small brain tumors early Friday morning.

Jovita worked as a news reporter and anchor at Channel 2 Action News for two decades.

Just before going on the air Monday, Jovita told Channel 2’s Justin Farmer that she wasn’t feeling well.

Later, as she walked through a grocery store parking lot, she felt lightheaded. “I was walking. I remember walking across parking lot and feeling like I wasn’t going to make it to the door. I was walking like in quicksand,” Jovita said.

She was rushed to an emergency room, where a brain scan revealed two small brain masses.

Jovita told co-workers she was sometimes “forgetful, disoriented and just not feeling myself.”

What is a Brain Tumor?

A brain tumor occurs when abnormal brain cells clump together to form a mass. As the tumor grows, it presses on the surrounding tissue. Eventually, the pressure on surrounding structures causes symptoms, such as in Jovita’s case.

Brain tumors can remain in the brain or metastasize (spread) elsewhere in the body.

Cancer in other parts of the body, such as the lungs, can metastasize to the brain.

Tumors may be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous).

What are the risk factors for a brain tumor?

A family history of cancer is one of the risk factors. About 5 to 10 percent of all cancers are hereditary.

Brain tumors are diagnosed more often in Caucasians and biracial, mixed people.

Certain chemicals, such as industrial cleaners, solvents, or medications can increase your risk for brain cancer.

Exposure to radiation can also increase risk.

According to the American Brain Tumor Association, people who never had childhood chicken pox are at greater risk of getting brain tumors.

Signs and symptoms of a brain tumor

Signs and symptoms of a brain tumor depends on the type, size, and location of the tumor within the brain. The space surrounding the brain inside the skull doesn’t allow for much wiggle room. A tumor, or even an aneursym, will press on surrounding tissues causing noticeable signs and symptoms.

Signs & symptoms include:

  • Headache
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness, vertigo
  • Blurred or double vision
  • Loss of balance
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Seizures
  • Confusion, disorientation
  • Change in mental status
  • Memory loss
  • Hand tremors
  • Difficulty walking
  • Numbness or tingling on one side of the body
  • Difficulty speaking

    How are brain tumors diagnosed?

Your doctor will order diagnostic tests and perform a physical exam. The doctor will use an ophthalmoscope to visualize your optic nerves inside your eues. The scope shines a light in your eyes to see if your pupils are unequal or dilated.

Diagnostic tests include CT scan, MRI, angiography and skull X-rays.

    How are brain tumors treated?

Treatment depends on the type, size, and location of the tumor. The most common treatment is surgery to remove the tumor.

Surgery can also be combined with chemotherapy and radiation.

There are risks involved with brain surgery, such as loss of mobility, loss of speech and paralysis. Post-surgical infection is also likely.

Patients may temporarily lose the ability to walk or speak after surgery, depending on the location of the tumor that was removed.

Some patients will require physical therapy or speech therapy after surgery.
